Teach Smarter Not Harder Karl Prokop Books

Following Karl Prokop's recommendations could make teaching a great deal more pleasurable for many teachers! Who wouldn't want more time in a day or week! Brief, simple rules that are implemented are effective tools in any classroom. Give respect to get respect works. I loved the idea of giving the essay question first so it can be graded while kids complete the rest of the test--brilliant! I particularly liked the reasoning for the book--rested and recharged teachers are happy, effective teachers! There are so many good ideas in this book that beginning and experienced teachers could use to their benefit. I highly recommend Teach Smarter, Not Harder!

Teach Smarter Not Harder Karl Prokop Books Reviews

This book offers great ideas for teachers of middle and high school students. Unfortunately, I teach elementary, so very few of the ideas will help me in particular.
Important suggestions and info dispersed throughout this book that made a lot of sense to me and other educators. Thank you!
I chose this rating only because I detected a few flaws in the version.

The book overall was easy reading and very informative. I wish that some of the teachers I had back in the day were privy to some of the author's tips.
I've taught for 20 years. I'm always looking for strategies that will improve the quality of my teaching. Mr. Prokop shares some great ideas and has an outstanding philosophy regarding how to treat students.
The author has put together a well thought out, easy to implement game plan for becoming a better, more efficient teacher. He has done his homework in gathering data from real teachers who are in the field every day and has applied effective solutions to problems universal to the teaching profession. This book is easy to read and should be in the desk of every teacher as a standard reference tool for not only serving their students better but also for creating a more efficient work day and thereby having more free time. That's what I call a win-win!
First, the author continually refers to scan torn tests and the use of a grading machine. With the requirements of the Common Core, we can no longer expect to test this way.

Second, the author makes several suggestions that, while possibly successful in high school, are not applicable to young students.

Finally, making use of prep time is continually recommended. What prep time?!! I did not find this book to be very useful.
Being a former student of the author, I knew this book would be full of insight and knowledge that would be instilled upon me. Even though I am not a teacher, I believe I can still benefit from the perspective of one of the best teachers out there, because there may, and probably will be, a day where I am in a position to teach someone something. From time management to engaging students to actively study to respect in the classroom, there is something in this book that everyone can benefit from and can be applied outside the classroom as well. Something I was able to learn first hand was the importance of prioritizing time management, a streamlined way of studying, and respect for others - which goes above and beyond the history class Mr. Prokop has set out to teach. This is a book for anyone in any occupation, and is well worth the time to read!
